Manchester United are happy to activate Sergi Roberto’s release clause, according to Don Balon, translated by The Sun. Apparently, the 25-year-old is unsettled due to an imminent FC Barcelona move for former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Paulinho.

However, the Red Devils wouldn’t have it all their own way if they made a move for the Spaniard, as Chelsea Football Club are also showing an interest.

According to the aforementioned report, Roberto has a £36.5million release clause with Manchester United are willing to meet.

Roberto has been at the Camp Nou for years, but the fact that he could find first-team opportunities quite limited could force his hand into moving elsewhere.

Coming to the Premier League wouldn’t be an easy decision for him to make, but the fact that two of the biggest sides in the country are showing an interest tells you everything you need to know about his talents and capabilities.

His versatility is a big factor into what makes him an attractive proposition to Mourinho, as he can come in and play as a central midfielder, and also a right-sided defender – with the latter being an area in which we’re quite short right now.

I like Roberto and I think it could be an astute piece of business. If it doesn’t work out, he’d always have sell-on value.
