Nemanja Matic believes Manchester United have the ‘maturity’ in their squad to challenge for the Premier League next season.

Jose Mourinho’s charge finished sixth last term, 24 points behind champions Chelsea having drawn 18 games during a mixed campaign.

Alvaro Morata rejected Tottenham because he was afraid of Harry Kane, claims Pochettino

Mourinho will hope a productive summer window can inspire a more consistent run in the top-flight, with Matic joining Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku in signing for the Red Devils this summer.

And United’s newest signing is confident the team can compete both domestically and in Europe next season.

‘I think that this squad is ready because they are mature and they have already worked with Jose for one year,’ Matic told MUTV following his £40million move to Old Trafford.

‘So they know what they have to do and I’m sure that this season we can do many things.’

‘As a member of the team I think we can do many good things. I’m sure we will try to win the Premier League, also the Champions League, and you never know what can happen.

‘It’s always special to play in that competition and everything is possible. All the best teams in Europe are there so we’ll see.

‘Manchester is one of the best teams in Europe for sure. It’s very difficult to make a plan before the season starts but we will try to win every game.’

Mourinho was determined to bring a defensive midfielder to the Theatre of Dreams this summer and says Matic was a ‘Jose Mourinho player’.
