Chelsea fans convinced they’re under Jose Mourinho’s curse after nightmare first half vs Burnley

Antonio Conte stressed the need throughout the summer for Chelsea to hit the ground running this season but supporters were left with a sense of Deja vu after their first half against Burnley.

The Blues were crowned champions in May after a scintillating debut campaign for Conte at Stamford Bridge but the Italian warned his side they cannot repeat the same mistakes made under Jose Mourinho in 2015.

The Manchester United boss had led Chelsea to the title in 2014/15 but was sacked in December after a disastrous start to the season left the Blues in the relegation zone.

Chelsea’s pre-season has had echoes of Mourinho’s final summer at the club with Conte criticisng the board for their lack of success in the transfer market.

And memories of Mourinho’s infamous title defence in 2015 came flooding back at Stamford Bridge today when Conte’s men were reduced to 10-men and went 1-0 down to the Clarets.

Full-back Stephen Ward then compounded Chelsea’s misery when he netted a stunning strike to double the Clarets’ lead before Sam Vokes hit another before half-time to make it 3-0.

And Chelsea fans were utterly convinced they were back under Mourinho’s curse.
