Man United boss Jose Mourinho has one amazing reason for Real Madrid defeat

Ronaldo’s fault
Jose Mourinho made a point to go up to each Real Madrid player and hug them following the Super Cup defeat last night, and it seems the Manchester United manager has his excuses already prepared for why the team lost.

He managed to have a go at the officials, and claim that VAR should’ve been used properly – and also said that the referee was overawed when Cristiano Ronaldo came on – right at the end of the game, and gave Real Madrid more free kicks and time on the ball because of it – and it cost United a chance at extra time.

Mourinho said when speaking with BT Sport post match: “With a good VAR it would be 1-1 and extra time.“I think they could score more goals than they did, and we could score more goals than we did.

“I think they had a period of dominance in the middle of the first half. We had a period of dominance in the middle of second half, and the rest was balanced.“We were playing against a team full of fantastic players, but we discussed the result until almost the end.

“Then Cristiano came on and the referee wanted to show the respect for this amazing player. Every time Cristiano wanted it, the ref blew for a free-kick and the game was stopped.“But we gave them a good fight.”

Pre-season
It marks the end of pre-season for Manchester United and Mourinho, and while the Super Cup would certainly have been called a trophy had the club won it, much like the Community Shield last season, it won’t bother Mourinho too much in the context of the work his side have already done.

The club have seen their pre-season go successfully for the main part, and will be optimistic as they prepare to take on West Ham come Sunday and the start of the season, where they will also face their former forward, Javier Hernandez.
