Antonio Conte explains why he’s so annoyed with the Matic sale

Antonio Conte
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been speaking about the sale of Nemanja Matic, and has explained just why he was so angry at Chelsea for the sale – and it’s not just because it has allowed Manchester United to bolster their side.

The Italian manager is also angry that it has hampered his plans for new signing, 22-year-old Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is not only young and new to the league, but also recovering from a knee injury, and will now not have the time Conte wanted him to be afforded in terms of his debut.

The Express report Conte said: “Bakayoko is a good signing for us. He is very young.
“My idea was to give Bakayoko the right time to adapt in this league behind Matic.

“We have Cesc Fabregas and we are trying to find another midfielder. Because now we have only three midfielders and we need another midfielder.”

“The importance for me about this player [Matic], who is a really good player, a top player, very important for our team, but sometimes you must accept this crazy transfer market.“And sometimes you must accept different decisions. But he is a great loss for us.”

Rivals boost

Of course, as much as Conte is annoyed about his plans, there is no getting away from the fact that the signing of Matic for United is giving manager Jose Mourinho what his side needed the most.

Matic is someone who has worked with Mourinho before, and who knows him well – and will sit back and defend – allowing the other Manchester United midfielders to go forward and flourish without the added defensive worry and responsibility – something that people are expecting Paul Pogba to find very rewarding if pre-season is anything to go by.

Already Matic has made an impression, and has been impressive in the games he’s featured in so far for United and Mourinho.
