Lagos court dissolves 25-year-old marriage over wife’s lateness in preparing meals
President of the court, Mr Olu Adebiyi, who dissolved the marriage, said there was “no longer any love in the marriage.”
Adebiyi said that the court had tried several times to reconcile their indifference but all efforts proved abortive.
“Therefore, you have ceased to be husband and wife, henceforth.
“I put an end to the union between both of you from today in the interest of peace,” he said.
The 57-year-old husband had told the court that his wife does not cook for him regularly and when she does, the food comes late.
“My wife had failed in her matrimonial obligations; she doesn’t prepare my food on time, I have warned her several times but she wouldn’t listen to me.
“ Most times I go to the canteen to eat when I am hungry, there is no point in harbouring a wife that makes me hungry.
“In fact, my sister saw me there one of these days, I am totally fed up.
“Please separate us, I am no more interested in the marriage.”
However, the 45-year-old respondent denied all the allegations and accused her husband of wanting to take another wife.
“He is accusing me wrongly because he wants to take another wife, please help me beg him.
Police dismisses corporal for killing 2 women at funeral
A Police Corporal, Ali Christopher, who accidentally fired and killed 2 nursing mothers on 27 June, 2015, at a funeral in Fugar town, in Edo State, has been dismissed from the Force.
A Orderly Room Trial set up by the State Command of Nigerian Police Force which found him guilty, recommended his dismissal and trial for murder.
Corporal Ali Christopher with Force No. 444040 was until his dismissal, attached to the Auchi Area Commander’s office.
Edo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Stephen Onwochei, confirmed the dismissal of the erring officer to journalists in Benin, adding that the case “has been thoroughly dealt with. Two police officers were arrested. At the end of investigations, one officer was found to be culpable.
“That person has been tried in Orderly room, he is a corporal, and as I speak with you he has been dismissed. Hopefully by next week he shall appear in court.”
The Edo police spokesman who advised police officers to be guided by Force Order 237 which spells out the use of arms by officers, also appealed to members of the public to always keep a reasonable distance from any officer bearing arms.
The dismissed policeman allegedly fired his gun, one of the bullets narrowly missed a 2-month-old baby who was strapped to the back of its mother before hitting the mother on her neck.
The victim was identified as Sandra Imhaku, reportedly lost her husband last year while expecting the baby. She was said to have been rushed to Irrua Specialist Hospital, Irrua, where she died the following day.
The second victim simply identified as Mrs. Saliu, an indigene of Fugar, came from Warri, Delta State with her husband to attend the funeral of her in-law, one late Mr. Itu Joseph when the incident occurred.

Kano College of Education staff Battle Buhari over New Upgrade
Worried by the rumours that president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration may revert the newly upgraded Federal College of Education (FCE) from its new university status, the Academic Staff Union of the newly upgraded FCE, Kano, on Monday staged a protest against the speculated move to revert the university.
This was just as Senator Kabir Gaya, who is representing the state in the upper chamber vowed to resist any attempt to revert the institution by the Buhari-led government.
Various placards carried by the staff of the FCE with various inscriptions read;
“Haba Buhari, this is not the change we voted for”, “Baba keep our universities alive” and “Mr President let the Universities remain” among others.
The newly upgraded federal colleges of education to the university include Kano, Zaria, Ondo and Owerri.
The newly universities staffs alleged that some of the provosts of the defunct colleges of education were misinforming the presidency to revert the universities, citing a mere implication of financing new universities, just because of their selfish interest to maintain their positions.
However, while addressing pressmen before the union’s congress, Chairman of the Coalition of Staff union of the new university, Dr Abubakar Sadiq, explained that the move against the development was emanating from the old College of Education Zaria.
He disclosed that some set of individuals were asking the Emirate council to against the move with a claim that it might become a mirage to get a new college of education in Zaria if the present one is finally converted.
Dr.Sadiq noted that considering the huge benefits of the universities after running an affiliated degree programs for over40 years, the coalition unions have been engaging the emirate councils, the governors and the national assembly to ensure that the federal government gives its full support for the universities.
However, in his swift reaction, a senator representing Kano South, Senator Kabiru Gaya has vowed that the national Assembly would resist any move by the federal government to revert the upgrading of the Universities of education as speculated.
Senator Gaya, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on the telephone said he was aware of the speculations and he had already contacted the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of education, who promised that the situation would be resolved amicably.
The lawmaker argued that Kano State is one of the States in the North-West who do not have a federal government polytechnic, saying any move to revert the new university in the State will be a total sabotage to educational development in the State.

NDLEA Seizes N2.8 Billion Naira Drugs At Lagos Airport
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos seized narcotic drugs weighing 455.215kg between January and June 2015 with an estimated street value of the drugs of N2.8 billion naira, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
In addition, $2.5 million dollars cash was equally intercepted while seventy-five (75) suspected drug traffickers and money launderers were arrested in connection with the seizures. They are 62 males and 13 females.
The intercepted money includes $2.1 million dollars seized from a bureau de change operator which had been transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation. Fifteen (15) arrests were recorded on Emirates airline being the most preferred flight for those apprehended. Qatar airways had eleven (11) arrests, Ethiopian airline followed closely with eight (8) arrests and Etihad airways seven (7) arrests.
NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar gave a breakdown of the seized drugs. “The seized drugs include cannabis sativa 138.304kg, ephedrine 133kg, methamphetamine 93.85kg, cocaine 43.426kg and tramadol 42.025kg. We also seized 2.5 million dollars cash within the period. The money include the 2.1 million dollars seized from one Mr. Ibiteye John Bamidele who is a bureau de change operator as well as other financial seizures totaling $403,825” Hamza stated.
The commander noted that several modes of concealment adopted by the suspects were detected by the Agency. In his words, “22 suspects were arrested for ingesting drugs, 33 were caught with drugs packed inside their luggage while 6 others were found to have packed drugs on their bodies all in a bid to evade arrest. Thirty-nine (39) of the suspects were caught during outward screening attempting to smuggle drugs out of the country. Seven among them were going to China where drug trafficking attracts death penalty. Twenty-eight (28) others were apprehended during inward screening operations with twenty three (23) of them coming from Brazil”.
The Chairman/Chief Executive of the anti-narcotic Agency, Ahmadu Giade says illicit drug proceeds are highly injurious to the economy and that Nigeria cannot afford to handle drug trafficking with kid gloves. “Illicit funds generated by drug trafficking is colossal. Such proceeds are unaccounted for and constitute a high risk in the coffers of drug syndicates which empowers them to sustain their inimical acts. As a result, we must continue to confront drug trafficking cartels with every sense of seriousness by deploying available resources at our disposal” Giade stated.
The NDLEA boss assured Nigerians that the Agency is working very hard to dismantle more drug syndicates.
15-year-old loses eye after being flogged by the step mother
A 15-year-old boy, identified only as Bolu, lost an eye after his step mother, Esther Modupe, allegedly flogged him in the Onipanu area of Lagos.
It was learnt that Bolu, who was looking forward to writing the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of a university in Lagos State, is blind in his left eye.
It was gathered that Bolu’s mother separated from her husband, Lekan Williams, about 10 years ago, and her two children were brought up by the husband alone until 3 years ago when Lekan married a second wife- Esther.
Esther, who is yet to have a child with Lekan took care of the children before the flogging incident.
It was gathered that Esther and Lekan were arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 10.
On Tuesday, June 16, the family, who stayed in a rented apartment on Owodunni Street, had gone to church, leaving the key to the apartment with Bolu.
But the teenager, however, arrived late at home which annoyed Esther, who consequently flogged the boy for returning home late. The cane was said to have hit the boy by accident.
The boy’s eye reportedly became swollen after which he was said to have been rushed to a private hospital. However, the condition of the eye gradually worsened and after a month, Bolu was said to have gone partially blind.
A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Esther was friendly to the 2 children left by the 1st wife, adding that it was unfortunate that the flogging caused a problem.
He said:
“Bolu’s mother packed out of this house about 10 years ago. She knew she had two children, but she abandoned them. The man was forced to marry a second wife about three years ago. That was when Esther started living here.
“The woman worked as a private school teacher, and she was very nice to Bolu and his younger brother. The two also liked her, and you will not even know they were not her children. But it turned out that on that day that she was angry and flogged the boy. The cane hit him in the eye.
“They initially thought it was a small thing. But it turned out to be a big problem. The mother then showed up and took him away.”
Another resident and shop owner, identified only as Mama Olu, said the act was unintentional, adding that Bolu, who would be sitting for the post-UTME soon, did not open up on his condition on time.
She said
“Bolu is a cool-headed boy, and he loved the woman too. Esther too was close to the children. She taught them lessons, and bought clothes for them. It is the father that I blame because he did not notice the boy’s condition and take him to a hospital before it was too late.
“Now, the result of the medical test stated that the boy has lost the eye. It is unfortunate; the woman was nice to her step sons.”
It was gathered that Bolu’s mother came to the area on Monday, and took her son away.
The matter has since been brought to the attention of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, which was coordinating other agencies to provide rehabilitation for the boy.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, confirmed the arrest.

We wash toilets to survive abroad – Stranded Rivers students
Rivers State students studying overseas say they face a lot of frustration due to non-payment of their allowances. The Rivers State Government under the Rotimi Amaechi administration had established an overseas scholarship programme for some of the state’s bright youths in 2008.
The aim, according to Amaechi, was to encourage the beneficiaries of overseas scholarship schemes to return home, after completing their courses, to develop the state with their wealth of knowledge and experience.
But the achievement of such lofty objectives appears to be threatened, following feelers from majority of the students, spread across Europe, Asia and America, that all is not well with them.
There is an indication that the students, who have been away for the past two years, are facing tough times in their various foreign universities as a result of unpaid tuition fees, rents and other allowances.
It would be recalled that the first batch of 100 students left for Singapore early in 2009, while the second batch left for Canada on May 4, the same year. All had been rosy until the state government could not pay their fees, rents and provide them allowances in 2014.
The beneficiaries have tried to send out messages stating their conditions and the challenges they faced as a result of government’s failure to fulfil its own part of the bargain and to make the overseas scholarship programme achieve its goal.
Some of the students, who went through a rigorous process to emerge beneficiaries of the programme, are currently roaming the streets.
While some of them risk possible termination of their studies, it was gathered that others had already been stopped by the respective university authorities for not being able to pay their fees. One of the students, Victor Obuforo (not real name), said he had at a point found it very difficult to feed, as a result of the untold hardship caused by the failure of the Rivers State Government to pay their allowances.
“I had to choose between working in the morning and going for classes later. With an empty account, I had to skip that and go for the job. It may interest you to know what that job it is. I went into loading lorries to earn 40 pounds just for feeding. We need help as fast as possible,” Obuforo said.
Also, a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Huddersfield, who also craved anonymity, said, “We are on the verge of losing the opportunity given to us to come here and learn, go back to Nigeria and make our country a better place. As a Mechanical Engineering student, I have been able to secure a placement here in one of the biggest motor companies in the United Kingdom.
“If you know what it is to get a placement as an African student here in the UK, you will know that we have really had sleepless nights. We have passed through a series of interviews and written applications to get this opportunity. Now, the opportunity is going to be taken away from us just because we cannot pay our school fees.
“It is a bad image for our government at the moment. Our landlords can no longer receive just one month rent from us because they believe that we could be sent back anytime soon. This has also affected other Nigerian students here. The country’s name, as well as that of the state, is at risk.”
If the fear expressed by the student is mild, the revelation from one of the students’ representatives in the UK (Nottingham), Barile Zinah, could be shocking. He explained that although his parents had been sending him money from Nigeria to feed, some of his colleagues were not lucky to get such assistance.
Zinah added that some of the students from Rivers State were currently working in charity homes where they take care of old people and those with mental challenges in order to survive. The undergraduate, who interacted with The PUNCH via electronic mail, disclosed that some of his colleagues were washing toilets in some restaurants in the UK to keep bodies and souls together.
Explaining that some Nigerians may think that some of them were lazy and they could not work to raise their schools fees and rent, Zinah said it was not possible to do menial jobs in Europe and pay school fees of between £12,000 and £15,000, depending on the university. He specifically said that with the menial jobs, a person was paid between £5 and £6 an hour.
“I travelled in 2013 and my study is going to end in 2016. For an average student on a scholarship in the UK, the school fees ranges from £12,000 to £15,000, depending on the university. Students are paid £400 for accomodation each and an upkeep allowance of £400 for men and £450 for women. I am owing about $7,500 as tuition fees for three semesters and four months’ rent plus bills, which is about $1,405.
“My parents now send me money for my upkeep and feeding. But not every student is opportune to have parents or guardians that can sustain them throughout this period. Some of us have resorted to taking up jobs in charity homes where we are expected to take care of old people or people that are mentally unstable. Some students have also taken up cleaning jobs, washing of toilets in fast foods joints, such as McDonald’s and Burger King,” he said, adding that all entreaties through letters to the RSSDA did not yield any positive response.
Zinah said he was currently on internship with his university, saying, “Not everyone is lucky to get an internship, but I can tell you that for my fellow students, it has been hell. They have run into debts; their bank accounts are showing overdrafts. Feeding is very difficult because it is eight months now without rent and upkeep.
“My landlord is tired of listening to my pleas. A majority of the students were kicked out by their landlords and their details given to debt collectors. On several occasions, we were forced to beg friends from other countries or from UK for money or food. We even borrow when it becomes necessary.”
He, however, called on the state government to come to their aid, even as he expressed the fear that as universities resume across Europe in September, many students of Rivers State origin are not sure they will be allowed to continue with their studies or stay in the various European countries.
“Our fate hangs on a thread. This whole saga is not politically motivated and every single word said here is not exaggerated. It is 100 per cent accurate. Universities will resume next month (September) and most of us aren’t even sure if we will be allowed to continue our studies in our respective universities or even be allowed by the UKBA (United Kingdom Border Agency) to stay in the country.
“Also, I know many people reading this will come up with the assumption that we are all lazy and that we are idling away and waiting for the government to send us money. But, no matter the part-time job you take, you cannot pay your school fees, not to mention rent, bills, our upkeep and transportation. We are calling on the Government of Rivers State to come to our aid,” Zinah appealed.
It is, however, the same pathetic story for Rivers State undergraduates in the United States of America, whose school fees, rents and other allowances remain unpaid. One of the students, who does not want his name mentioned, told The PUNCH he would have died of hunger but for a white man who housed and fed him and five other students from the state for one month.
“Our families help out when they can. But, in most situations, we have had to ask the church we attend for help. They’ve provided us with groceries and money. That’s how we’ve been able to survive during difficult times. At a point, we were kicked out of school because we couldn’t pay for our summer housing. A church member housed six of us for over a month. They fed and took care of all of us. These are white people. People we’ve never met in our lives. I just thank God that He strategically placed them here to help us,” the undergraduate said.
Although the state governor had provided the sum of N712m to settle the debts, some of the students explained that the money was for overseas graduating/final year students from the state. One of them said that the UKBA had given the helpless students 60 days to leave the United Kingdom.
“I am writing this on behalf of the Rivers State scholarship students under the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency in Huddersfield. It is no news that the scholarship body is owing all the students abroad eight months allowances plus rent. But the pressing issue about these particular students is that the school has terminated their studies due to failure of the agency to pay their tuition fees. Now the UKBA has given them 60 days to vacate the country.
“Many letters have been written, but to no avail. We know that the governor released 712 million recently, but not to this effect. The money was meant for students in the final year that couldn’t graduate due to fees being owed. The protest you see in this video is in no way political or masterminded by any element to ridicule anyone. They just want their voices to be heard,” another student, who also craved anonymity, stressed.
Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on Media and Publicity, Sir Opunabo Inko-Tariak, promised that the governor would address the matter “very soon”, adding that the problem of the non-payment of overseas students’ school fees was caused by the immediate past administration. Inko-Tariah also pointed out that the Amaechi administration was not prudent with funds, especially when the state was buoyant.
He said, “You cannot send students out of this country to go and suffer, especially when you know that the state is buoyant enough to pay their school fees and all the allowances. Unfortunately, we had a governor who was financially reckless and insensitive to the plight of the student and bothered less about them. Amaechi bothered more about his own political ambition. That is what kept the students in the sorry state that they have found themselves.”

A woman, who posted a picture of herself breastfeeding her child and a friend’s son on social media, has sparked a fierce debate about ethical side of wet nursing.
Jessica Anne Colletti is pictured breastfeeding her 16-month-old son, and her friend’s 18-month-old boy both sucking on her nipples.
She tagged the photo “Happy World Breastfeeding Week! I watch her son while she works and have been feeding them both for a year! So much love between these milk siblings, it’s a special bond between us all.”
My friend and her son live with me and my husband. She knows everything about me and trusts me with the care of her child. She knows I want nothing but the best four our boys, which is why she supports me breastfeeding our babies.”
However, after tons of criticism Mrs Colletti decided to delete her post but is not going to give up feeding both kids. Here are just some of them: “I’m sure she your friend is definitely NOT okay with it.”; “Sorry but that’s strange.” Others were more positive: “I wish that I could like this a million times!”; “Wet nurses saved many lives years ago.”
A wet nurse is a woman who breast feeds and cares for another’s child. Breastfeeding offers scores of health benefits to mother and child: 73% decreased risk of sudden infant death syndrome, increased intelligence, decreased likelihood of contracting middle ear infections, cold and flu resistance, lower risk of childhood onset diabetes, decreased risk of asthma and eczemaand many more.

3,000 Ghost Pensioners Discovered on Nigerian Police Payroll
According to the Director General of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Nellie Mayshak, PTAD's, about 3,000 ghost pensioners have been eliminated from the Nigerian police payroll. Recent verification exercise for retired police pensioners, Customs, Immigration and Prison pensioners led to the discover.
This, she said, led to a drastic reduction in Nigerian police's payroll by N100 million monthly.
“On the good side, there were 600 pensioners that had never received any payment since they retired, which is unjust, so we are quickly going to pay those people. Through the process, we have seen that some people are underpaid while some are overpaid and so we are adjusting all that,” Mayshak stated.

Bukola Saraki's son announced as new Chairman of Saraki Football Club, ABS FC
Seni Saraki (pictured right above), the son of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has been announced as the new Chairman of the Ilorin based Nigeria National League side, Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABS FC).
In a statement by the club's spokesman, Jimoh Bashir, he said the decision to effect the change was taken after a meeting with the new new Chairman and the General Manager of the club, Alloy Chukwuemeka in Lagos over the weekend.
Following the development, the Senate President remains the Proprietor of the Club, while Mr Seni Saraki assumes duty as the Chairman, with the incumbent General Manager Alloy Chukwuemeka retaining his position.
ABS FC was bought by the Senate President Bukola Saraki in 2011 and was introduced into the footballing market to empower the youth, and give them the opportunity to exhibit their God given talents.
The statement added that the new Chairman, Mr Seni Saraki has assured that necessary incentives and expertise would be provided to make the club a more professional side in line with the vision of establishing the club. He assured the players and officials of better deals, while he also pledged that their welfare would be accorded the required priority to allow them deliver their best to club. He charged them to be focused, disciplined and work towards getting a promotion ticket at the end of the on- going season. The new Club helmsman is expected to address the players, officials, coaches and supporters in Ilorin on assumption of duty soon.
President Buhari set to head petroleum Ministry for 18 months
President Muhammadu Buhari is set to head the Ministry of Petroleum for 18 months before appointing a substantive minister for the ministry.
The President said this while meeting with some members of his political party, the All Progressives Congress, in Abuja recently.
One of those at the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity, on Sunday said that the President said he would use the 18 months of heading the petroleum ministry to reposition it.
According to him,
“At the meeting we had recently, we discussed the issues of portfolios and other matters,” the President said he was going to handle the Ministry of Petroleum himself for about 18 months.
“He said it was after this that he would appoint a substantive minister for the ministry. He said he would only personally handle the reorganisation of the much-important ministry.
“Besides, he said the ministry needed to be reformed and be rid of corruption. He promised to sanitise the ministry.”
It was, however, gathered that the President was thinking of appointing an experienced person as his special adviser on petroleum.
The President was once a minister in charge of the ministry so due to this experience, he was said to have vowed to make sure that he blocked all the loopholes that enabled stealing of money or petroleum products.
He plans to split the NNPC in two, creating a regulator and a vehicle for investments, according to Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesman.
So far the president has fired the board and management of the company and replaced its Jonathan-appointed chief with Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, who was executive vice-chariman of Exxon Mobil Africa. He has also ordered a review of oil-swap contracts and barred 113 vessels from loading oil and gas, about 250,000 barrels of Nigerian crude, about 10 percent of the country’s daily output, are stolen daily, Buhari has said.
Speaking on the issue, the Peoples Democratic Party said it would be too early to speculate on whether the President would head the ministry or not.
Rather, the opposition party urged Nigerians to wait till September when the President promised to name his cabinet.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Jalo, told our correspondent that he was only sure that the President was going to split the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Jalo said, “That Buhari is going to head the ministry is speculative. But what we know, going by his body language and actions so far, is that he is going to split the NNPC.
“This is what we know. So, let’s wait and see what he’s going to do before we make comments.”
However, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties said the constitution vested powers on the President to head any ministry or parastatal of his choice or appoint a representative.
The National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said that Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution “vested executive powers on the President.
He said
“He can decide to exercise such powers by himself or delegate it to his deputy, or public officers of the public service of the federation. That’s what the law says.
“Whether he chooses to manage any ministry by himself is immaterial. Whether he decides to be in charge of ministries such as power, works, women affairs or culture does not mean anything to the Nigerian people.”

The comedians at the service include, Shortfamily, Laffdoctor, Wiseone and Ovie (The generous). Akpororo was not left out as he cracked jokes and also performed four of his songs from his album. His joy knew no bound as he sang and danced as never before, nobody knew what his plans was.
However, somewhere in the middle of the whole activities (choreography, choir rendition and sermon) the comedian was no where to be found. Just as the pastor was rounding off the closing prayer, four children walked up to the altar with each of them carrying a cardboard paper, and when they got to the middle, they all turned to face the congregation as they open the cardboard paper with “WILL YOU MARY ME” boldly written on it. The whole church thought it was a joke, still, Akpororo was no where around.At that point, the Bishop in-charge of Ultimate Power Ministry, Bishop Isreal Mathew, walked up and said, “one of my sons is asking someone here this question”.
Just then, AKPORORO walked up to the altar and knelt down in front of Jossy or Josephine (the only light skinned lady among the Explicit Dance Crew) and popped the one million dollar question, “Will you marry me”? with tears and smile of joy, Josephine said, “YES!

The Real Reason Obasanjo Visited President Buhari
Information reaching us says that President Muhammadu Buhari is finally putting together the names of trusted men who will work with him as Ministers to deliver the much expected change.
To this end, he met former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday evening inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The two leaders met for some minutes behind closed-doors inside the official residence of the President. Credible sources in Abuja say that they talked about some names.
Decked in blue agbada and a cap to match, Obasanjo arrived in Aso Villa after the day’s work when the President had returned from his office to the palatial residence.
The President’s residence is not open to journalists except on special occasions. Obasanjo must have decided to act on his knowledge of the Villa to visit Buhari at that time, away from the eyes of reporters.
This is the first time the former President would be visiting Buhari inside the Presidential Villa since his inauguration on May 29.

Patience Jonathan Returns to her vomit; Joins Force With APC To Tackle PDP Over Bayelsa Guber Poll
The last may not have been heard of our former first lady " Mama Peace" as she has resurfaced to show her political worth, as Bayelsa prepares to elect a new governor next year 2016.
There are indications that the wife of the former president, Dame Patience Jonathan, may be indirectly backing the governorship ambition of Chief Timipre Sylva, the immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, who wants to contest the gubernatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources revealed that in a meeting convened by Mrs. Jonathan recently, in Otuoke, she read the riot act to members of her group asking them not to support the re-election of the incumbent governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson.
The former First Lady prefers Dr. Weripamowei Dudafa, former presidential aide to the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan and Commissioner for Local Government under Sylva.
It was gathered that Mrs. Jonathan directed members of her political group to support the aspiration of Sylva.
When some of the people at the meeting raised observation as to the practicality and feasibility of working for Sylva when the former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan had openly declared support for Dickson, the former First Lady reportedly told them that Jonathan won’t support Dickson when the chips are down.
Among those who attended the meeting, it was learnt were former acting governor of the state and chairman of the defunct Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) in Bayelsa State, Hon Werinipre Seibarugu, Dr. Dudafa; former Commissioners for Transport and Sports, Mrs. Marie Ebikake and Hon Ebikitin Diongoli, a female politician, Mrs. Remi Kuku and a host of others.
