Frustrating news for Chelsea man ahead of the Blues’ UCL return

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to progress into the last 16 of the Champions League…
Last season was a long one for the Blues, given the lack of European football, and so many in the pub are relishing the chance of a spending their Tuesday and Wednesday’s in the Transfer Tavern once again.

It’s going to be tough for Chelsea, though, with a very difficult group stage set to begin this week. Roma and Atletico Madrid will be facing the Blues in the coming weeks, but a tough home leg against Qarabag is up first.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, though, Antonio Conte has delivered some bad news ahead of the game.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, Conte has confirmed that midfielder Danny Drinkwater could miss the game through injury, with the Englishman suffering an injury in training in the lead-up to the clash.

Though he has not been officially ruled out, it’s unlikely that he will be risked against Qarabag, and so that gives Antonio Conte a bit of a headache in the middle of the park.

Fortunately, with Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko to choose from, the Italian isn’t short of options quite yet.

Landlord’s Verdict

Drinkwater would have been a strong candidate to feature in the game, with N’Golo Kante likely due a rest.

His injury could force the Frenchman to play once again, though his workload is going to likely be reduced given the quality of Chelsea’s opponents.
Still, Conte will want to get him fit as soon as possible, with a tough run of games on the horizon.
