It’s all Jose
Chelsea fans have fallen in love with Antonio Conte for picking up the pieces of last season’s debacle, but it seems that one man thinks Jose Mourinho should be getting a little bit more credit for the club’s recent title win.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville claimed that the Blues should be thanking their former manager for all his hard work, and despite things going wrong under Mourinho last term, he built the side that Conte profited from – and he’s not the only one.
Neville said: “Ultimately Jose Mourinho has built two great sides at Chelsea.
“Ancelotti and Conte have profited, managed them brilliantly, but profited off the back of those two great Championship winning teams.”
Second season is huge
Of course, winning the title in his first season in England was a massive achievement for Conte, but he will be aware that the club demand constant success.
As Mourinho and Ancelotti, to name but two, found out, winning the title will not save you from the Chelsea axe should you then fail to impress Abramovich in the following seasons, meaning Conte has to deliver each and every year if he wants to hold onto his job.
