Big Boy Nwobodo Caught with Cocaine in Abuja Airport, Sent to 12yrs In Prison
As you read this, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has sentenced a Naija Big boy, 31yrs old Michael Nwobodo to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Nwobodo attempted to escape on the day of his arrest at the airport, but he was caught. He eventually own up and pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful importation of cocaine.
Justice Okon in his judgement observed that the illicit drug trade was not abating and that measures must be taken to stop the criminal act.
It will be recalled that Nwobodo, who was arrested on February 29, 2016 with 81 wraps of cocaine on his way from Dubai, attempted to escape by breaking through a glass wall at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. He was later arrested and treated for the injuries he sustained. The 81 wraps of cocaine were concealed in Parker Whisky packs along with boxes of chocolates inside a duty free bag.
He confessed to officials that he tried to escape because of the fear of going to prison.

"Help, NYSC has turned us to liars!!"
I have a complaint against the NYSC organization. I am a prospective corps member (PCM) of NYSC batch A 2016. It is no longer news that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is set out to frustrate and degrade the lives of youths and graduates in Nigeria.
On 8th of February online registration commenced for the 2016 NYSC Batch A orientation course scheduled to commence on the 2nd of march, after the registration however, NYSC time-table was changed and orientation camp postponed to 30th of march and subsequently 1st of April, most of us tendered our resignation letters to our employees as we were assured the date was not going to be tampered with again, few days to the anticipated date, the course was postponed yet again to the 27th of April to print our call-up letter on the 21st of April and no excuse whatsoever was given.
Yet all prospective corps members waited patiently.
The due date (21st of April) finally arrived to print our call up letters, admist confusion and tension PCM's were unable to print out their call-up letters only to be informed 24hours later by NYSC that not all corp members were in stream 1; and that 27th of April was scheduled for stream 1 corps members and 21st of May was slated for stream 2 corps members.
Most Prospective corp members got an unusual message, 'because you are not in stream 1, you will be notified when to print your call-up letter'. Others got the message 'you are to print your call up letter for the 13th to 21st of May 2016'. In other words 21st of May was the new date slated for Batch A stream 2 corp members, that is; one month after Batch A stream 1 printed their call-up letters.
Yet again stream 2 PCM's waited patiently.
Few days ago stream 1 passed out from camp and the due date for printing call up letter for stream 2 arrived (13th of May), NYSC sent random messages to some corps members informing them to start printing on the 14th of May, and few minutes later were resent a message 'sorry, you cannot print your call-up letter, you will be informed when to print your letters in due course'.
No formal update has since been published by NYSC on their site to explain the reasons for the unusual procrastination, corp members who haven't gotten messages have since been in denial by NYSC. On the 14th there was an update on NYSC social media account notifying us our letters will be ready later that day but yet again it was another empty promise.
This is 16th of May and there is still no press release or official statement by NYSC for us to go ahead and print our call-up letters. NYSC has denied rumours of postponement, but rumours reaching batch A stream 2 corp members is that Batch A stream 2 is now Batch B to leave in July or November which will be 5-9months after we are supposed to be in camp for the scheme.
NB: We have patiently waited for NYSC till date, some of us since 2014. We are unable to get decent Jobs to sustain ourselves and our families or further our studies because we do not have NYSC dispatch certificates, youths have been forced to stay idle, wasting precious time waiting for the scheme, so many resigned from their petty jobs all because we were eager to serve our fatherland.
How long will we continue to wait? IT IS EITHER WE ALL (BATCH A STREAM 2) CORP MEMBERS LEAVE ON 21ST OF MAY or OUR DISPATCH CERTIFICATE IS ISSUED TO US or WE ARE DEPLOYED TO OUR VARIOUS STATES OF DEPLOYMENT WITHOUT ORIENTATION CAMP AND GIVEN PLACES OF PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT if funds are insufficient.
The hardship in Nigeria is unbearable and it will be utmostly (sic) inhumane to punish the youths and leaders of tomorrow by promising them to continue waiting for an incompetent organization and a failed scheme that is not in the best interest of Nigerian youths.

Anambra Councillor beats 19-year-old nephew to death over stolen phone
The name of the victim was given as Nnanyere.
The mother of the deceased, Mrs. Gloria Onyema, claimed that her son died following beatings he received from the councillor.
According to her, Chidiebere came to their house and asked after the deceased, adding that when her husband, Okwudili, opened the door, he saw Chidiebere fuming.
She said her husband promised the councillor that he would pass his message to the late Nnanyere, who was not at home at that moment.
He then pleaded with him to be patient, adding that they were surprised on their return from the day’s business to be told by their younger son, Tochukwu, that the councillor came back in their absence and beat Nnanyere to stupor, Vanguard reports.
She said, “I went to look for Nnanyere and met him at the councillor’s house lying down helplessly. I was told that my son stole the councillor’s cell phone.
“I offered to pay N20,000 as part payment of the N35,000 the councillor claimed was the cost of the phone so that my son can be released to me to enable me take him to hospital for treatment.
“On getting to the Immaculate Hospital, Umunze, with my son, he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ali Okechukwu, confirmed the incident, saying that the councillor had been detained at the State Investigation Bureau, SIB, Awka, for interrogation.
Okechukwu said that investigation into the matter had commenced.
Breaking: Court orders NLC to suspend planned strike
The Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, had dragged he NLC to the Industrial Court, seeking an order of the court restraining the NLC from proceeding with the planned strike.
He had sought the order on the ground that the strike would paralyze the nation’s economy.
The AGF wants the court to decide whether the NLC complied with conditions precedent in law before threatening to embark on strike.
He told the Industrial Court that its refusal to grant the application would render the suit useless.
No counsel represented the Nigeria Labour Congress.
When asked by the presiding judge, how the AGF knew the NLC was planning to go on strike, Mr Malami said he saw a statement issued by the labour union on their website and that the statement had been published by the media.
The Court was presided over by the President of the National Industrial Court, Justice Babatunde Adejumo.
Ruling on an exparte application filed by the AGF on behalf of the Federal Government, Justice Adejumo ordered parties to maintain the status quo until the hearing and determination of the exparte motion.
The order will elapse in 7 days
Justice Adejumo directed the applicant to dialogue with the NLC towards an amicable resolution of their dispute.
The case was adjourned to May 24 for hearing of the motion on notice.
The Nigerian government is already holding talks with the labour union to address issues raised by the union after the government announced a new price band for petrol, raising it from 86.50 to 145 Naira per litre. The union is not comfortable with the 67.6 per cent increase in the price of petrol.

Infection can occur when infected blood and saliva come into direct contact with someone else’s bloodstream or mucous membrane. A person may be easily infected if they have sores in and around the mouth.
Warts: these can spread through kissing especially if in case of recent trauma. Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease: this is caused by Coxsackie virus and is spread through open sores in the mouth. This infection is common in kids especially those in day care. It is spread via the fecal oral route (maybe while changing diapers)
Bacteria That Can Be Transmitted by Kissing
Meningococcal Disease: this is a life threatening condition which includes meningitis, (inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord) and septicemia. Studies show that deep kissing seems to be one of the risk factors.
Tooth Decay: numerous studies indicate that Streptococcus mutans, the main bacteria implicated with caries is transmissible. Direct contact occurs most commonly via kissing. Indirect contact occurs though shared contaminated objects such as eating utensils, toothbrushes, cups and even toys.
Gum Disease
Since gum diseases are considered the equivalent of open wounds kissing or having oral sex when you or your partner had bleeding gums is an invitation for the transmission of unwanted organisms.
There is no need to give up kissing; while disease causing bugs can be transferred during a kiss, most won’t cause the disease and the risk of serious disease is small BUT it may happen. And it’s not all bad.

Letter To The Federal Government and The NLC
There is a saying that goes: ‘When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers’. This saying that has been used to characterise the carnage borne from the combat of two or more powerful forces cannot be overemphasised as regards the current happenings and the current state of the nation.
Nigeria is currently sitting on a keg of gunpowder with all these uncertainties hovering around the atmosphere. The government and some of its policies seem to have alienated the concerns of the masses; the planned nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress that is aimed at achieving the reversal of the fuel pump price, will also adversely affect the poor and middle class - more than it affects the power-holders that enacted the policy.
The Federal Government removed the subsidy at a time when many Nigerians were experiencing the hiked prices of commodities, and the lack of economic prosperity opportunities.
This hike was undertaken without proper orientation, and without the necessary infrastructure like transportation system that would alleviate the effects of the fuel price increase. The increased electricity tariff without adequate supply of electricity was one blow too many, the falling Naira was another piece of bad news that we did not want to hear. Now, we also have to contend with skyrocketing prices of food, clothing, entertainment, general services and everything else - simply due to the increase in the price of fuel.
I am not here to talk about the economy or tell you what you already know. I am here to talk about my people, the voiceless and helpless of the society. Those who cannot reach you and tell you their minds. I am here to talk about the welfare of Nigerians.
Due to the recent decision of the FG to remove the subsidy, the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) and other Labor Unions have decided to embark on a nationwide strike scheduled to kick-off on Wednesday 18th May, 2016. Nigerians have been advised by the NLC to stock up food and needed items as all markets, offices, banks and other institutions will be shut down.
The question now is this: what is the fate of those who do not even have resources to buy food even if markets were to be left open during the strike? I want the FG and the NLC to know this, there is no country as long as the lives, welfare and wellbeing of citizens do not matter to those who matter in the society and while you stock up your kitchens, stores, fridges, etc also remember that the vast majority of your citizens cannot remember how that feels like due to the unreasonable and selfish decisions you have made so far. While you buy in bulk – bags, baskets, cartons, drums, gallons and even trailers, these people only know and can only afford to buy in cups.
The FG and the NLC should come together and reach a reasonable compromise for the sake of the helpless masses because like they say: “One day, the poor will have nothing left to eat but the rich.” In this regard, when your policies and decisions that have made children look at their parents like failures reach a crescendo, there will be no one left for you to govern.
This article is not meant to blame or support anyone, however, I would also like to point out that ‘it is not the person who stepped on the fly that killed it but the person who hit the fly down in the first place.’ That also does not mean both of them do not have a hand in the death of the fly.
