Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu Never Apologised To Buhari – MASSOB, IPOB

The recent report by a national daily that incarcerated founder of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and executive director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed regrets and apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him a “terrorist, evil and a pedophile” in one of his many outlawed broadcasts, has been described as blatant lies.

In the report published on Wednesday, the newspaper said Mr. Kanu, who is being tried by the federal government for treasonable felony and five other offenses, had in a statement, also apologized to former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for his alleged uncomplimentary remarks and statements against them to facilitate his release.
The statement reads in part: “Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil and a pedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that, I unreservedly apologise and will be doing so in a private letter to the President. Before PMB (President Buhari) there was the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. I also said uncomplimentary things about him and Igbo elders as well, which I now recognise should not have happened because it is un-African to be rude or insolent to elders. All I was trying to do is to draw attention to the problems afflicting society and something done about them”.

Reacting to the report, IPOB National Coordinator Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe and Media and Publicity officer, comrade Emma Powerful, in a statement titled ‘Nnamdi Kanu never apologized for his release’, said it totally dismissed the publication, describing it as “the machinations of the Directorate of State Security, DSS to save its face having been disgraced by the court with granting of Kanu bail”.

According to IPOB, “DSS is not sincere, if they have respect for the constitution of Nigeria, they would have released Kanu as directed by the courts, instead, they are looking for new charges which they will use to jail him, but they will fail again, and they have discovered that they will not make any progress in their quest to jail Kanu, they are now looking for soft landing to chicken out of the case with the claim that Kanu is apologizing, a claim that does not hold water”.

IPOB, therefore, urged the media to beware of the false claims by DSS, saying that “Kanu is not disturbed in any way for his long incarceration, his spirit is very high and he will be received like a hero he is, any day they are tired of holding him and decides to release him”.

“Kanu is in detention for us, we are here for him. DSS should stop embarrassing itself with the false information they are churning out to the public. If they are honest in what they are claiming about Kanu’s apology, they should publish the copy of the said apology as an advert in the newspapers let the world see, if they say they culled it from the statement he wrote in DSS detention, how then did it become an apology to people”, said IPOB.

In the same vein, another pro-Biafra group, Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, discredited the report that the IPOB leader apologized for his comments against some Nigerians.

In a statement by its factional leader Mr. Uchenna Madu, MASSOB said the news that Nnamdi Kanu has apologized to President Buhari is completely false information and a calculated and systematic attempt by agents of the Federal government to discredit, disorganize and frustrate the agitation for actualization of Biafran State.

“The publication was totally false and should be ignored by the general public, no amount of intimidation, harassment, torture, killings, arrest and blackmail can make Kanu apologize for anything he said, nothing will ever make us to stop the agitation for the actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra”, he said.

Madu in his statement, further stated that “agitation for the actualization of Biafra has gained international prominence and sympathy even before Nnamdi Kanu arrest and detention, and his current detention has further strengthened the agitation, so this latest move and campaign of calumny by enemies and oppressors of Biafrans is a sign that they are jittery, frustrated and are afraid of the fast rising and global acceptance Biafrans struggle for actualization of state of Biafra.

“MASSOB and IPOB shall never be discouraged, frustrated, disorganized, dislocated or relent on the non-violent Biafran actualization because of this false statement credited to Nnamdi Kanu. Mazi Kanu as a true Biafran can never compromise the integrity, confidence and trust of Biafra freedom fighters no matter the condition, subjection or oppression by DSS and Nigerian government.

“This Federal government latest move to discredit IPOB and MASSOB has propelled us to redouble our efforts and strategies on Biafra agitation; we shall intensify our non-violence approach as MASSOB and IPOB march ahead for Biafra actualization,” he said.

PDP Distances Self From Members Indicted For Corruption, Urges Buhari To Probe ‘Corrupt’ Ministers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his anti-corruption war to serving ministers, who it alleged were involved in corrupt practices before their appointment to serve in the current administration.

The party made the call at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday, in Abuja, by PDP Body of National Vice Chairmen.

In a communique issued by its secretary and PDP national chairman for the South-South, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh; the body said the party was in support of the anti-corruption drive of President Buhari but insisted that some of his ministers were corrupt.

The PDP vice chairmen, who agreed that if corruption is not eradicated, the growth of Nigeria as a nation would remain stunted, distanced the party completely from any corrupt practices while it was in power for 16 years.

The body, which said that ‘mediocres’ would no longer be allowed to steer the affairs of the PDP, noted that any of its members convicted by the present administration for corruption, shall also face intra-party disciplinary action as it stood steadfastly by the ideals of the G-34 founding fathers of the party.

The communique also frowned at the corrupt toga hanged on the party, stressing that a vast majority of PDP members at the grassroots are innocent and not corrupt, adding that Nigerians will realize in the very near future that the PDP remains the only viable choice for the progress and unity of Nigeria

“The body notes with great concern the various allegations and charges against some PDP members that served in Government, even as these allegations and charges are yet to be proven, we call on the President to also investigate some of his serving Ministers and associates that even more grievous allegations have been levied against. The PDP as a Party dissociates itself from any of its members so indicted.

“We make bold to say that those who are corrupt have left the party and those who left are indisputably mercenaries and Soldiers of Fortune. In spite of having lost the Presidential elections the PDP remains the largest Party in Nigeria and Africa and we intend to keep it so.

“The vast majority of PDP members at the Grassroots are innocent and not corrupt and accordingly we frown at and reject the notion and tagging of the PDP as a corrupt party”, the communiqué read in part.

See What Ambode Did To Air Force Cadets For Locking Artisan In Their Car Boot | Photos

Two cadets of the Nigerian Air Force on Wednesday were arrested by the convoy of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in the Mile 12 area of Lagos while dehumanizing an artisan, Dahiru Lawal, for allegedly breaking the windscreen of their car.

The artisan was forced into the trunk of the car of the Air Force cadets, identified as Peters O. Solomon and Abdullahi Fahad, who claimed to be attached to the Air Force base, Ikeja, fater dragging him on the ground for allegedly breaking their windscreen.

According to a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Habib Aruna, Mr. Ambode was returning from an inspection visit to Agbowa in Ikorodu when he saw the dehumanizing condition the Air Force cadets subjected Lawal to, and swiftly moved to intervene.

Governor Ambode, the statement said, wondered how a fellow citizen could be subjected to such inhuman treatment over a slight offence.

When questioned by journalists, the cadets admitted putting Lawal in the boot of their car, claiming he had initially escaped into the nearby market after breaking their windscreen but they chased and eventually caught him.
“What happened is that the boy broke the windscreen in front of my car. When I stopped, I asked him to come, the boy ran away. We have to drag him back and put him in the boot.

“I kind of threatened his boss that he is working with and when his boss came and looked at what he did to me, that was when I put him inside the boot for the remaining ones to go and call the boss. Not that I locked the boot, I only put him inside the boot, but I did not lock the boot”, Cadet Solomon said.

Narrating a similar story, Fahad said they were on the Mile 12 road in their car after visiting a friend, when they heard something hit their windscreen and saw Lawal attempting to escape.

“We now run (sic) inside the market and dragged him (Lawal) down. I was even asking who he is working with because I want to see his Oga since I know he cannot repair my damaged windscreen. I want to see the man he is working with so that we can settle everything with him. I now told my colleague that we should hand him over to Air Force police at the Air Force Base”, Cadet Fahad said.

Confessing to breaking their windscreen, Lawal, who hails from Kaduna State, said it was an accident, when asked why he fled the scene, the artisan said it was for fear of what the Cadets might do to him if he stayed back.

“I ran into the market and they pursued me and caught me inside the market. They started beating me and dragged me to their car”, he said.

“I ran because I was afraid of what the cadets might do to me, while my boss and people around begged on my behalf, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

“The police also came to plead with them to open the boot but they insisted on taking me away and it was at that point that the convoy of the Governor arrived to rescue me from the boot of the car where they kept me”, Lawal said.

The artisan claimed that he lost his cell phone and sum of N5, 000 that was on him when the Air Force cadets dragged him on the floor.

Meanwhile, Governor Ambode ordered that the Cadets be handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Our children are not monsters- argues mom of ISIS fighter

The BBC talked with one young British woman who was recently contacted by ISIS recruiters. She preferred not to use her name, but she did talk about what first got her interested in groups others might view as radical.

It was the news about three teenage girls, gifted students in east London who slipped away in February to join ISIS.

"Why are they going?" she asked herself. "I guess that sparked a sort of curiosity."
She started tweeting stories about the three girls. She thinks that ISIS recruiters found her Snapchat account in her Twitter bio.
"It wasn't really as cliché as people think it was. It wasn't a sort of 'Hey, come join us!'" she notes. "It was more of a, "Hey sister, how are you doin'?' ... It's like a conversation with a friend. It's like a normal thing."
When the recruitment became more intense, she worried most about what joining a radical group would mean for her commitment to soccer.
"If I have three kids and a husband, am I really going to be able to continue living my passion?" she asked herself. "The thing about this [soccer] team is everyone's a family, everyone's together. You have somewhere where you are accepted, where everyone does love you. Once you have a place to go like this this, you won't even be brought to think about that kind of thing."
She now works with The Unity of Faiths Foundation, a group that fights radicalization through soccer.
In Canada, Christianne Boudreau co-founded another kind of group that works to counter extremism. It's called Mothers for Life, and it's a network for parents like her who have lost their sons and daughters to radical groups.
Boudreau's son Damian died fighting with ISIS in Syria last year. She's moving to France, and expects to find a stronger network of parents there looking to counter jihad.
"There are a lot more parents that have come open to one another, working together, supporting each other," she says. "Whereas in North America, very much there's still a stigma, everybody's holding back. They're afraid to speak out, they're afraid to reach out for help."
Boudreau says far too often parents miss the signs of radicalization, in part because popular portrayals of extremists lack nuance.
"They unfortunately look at our children as monsters, and they're not. They're normal, everyday kids that get caught up in something, make mistakes and don't realize the choices they're making," she says. "They're not all evil like what we see in the media. They're kids having emotional struggles."
When parents suspect their children are drifting toward radicalization, they should turn to others in their community for help, according to Boudreau.
"Parents shouldn't try to do this on their own," she says. "They're too emotionally connected to their children. And they can end up pushing their youth further away."

Spanish police detain two siblings who kept brother locked in 'inhuman conditions'

Spanish police said Tuesday they had detained two people who kept their 59-year-old brother locked up in "inhuman conditions" in a tiny, roofless room adjoining their home.
The man, who suffers from mental problems, was discovered naked in a tiny room without a roof in the southern town of Dos Hermanas, on a filthy mattress next to which bottles and buckets were laid out for him to go to the toilet, police said in a statement.

Police in the town near Seville made the grisly discovery when they brought his 76-year-old drunk brother back to his home following complaints of disorderly behaviour.
"Once inside the home, they saw a door at the end of a corridor closed with a chain... and padlock," Spain's national police said in a statement.
"After asking the man, he said that was where his brother lived, who had mental problems and whom they kept isolated for his security."

His 61-year-old sister also lived in the house and said she kept him fed and cleaned, and looked after his 1,000-euro ($1,100) monthly pension.

"Due to the strange situation they were faced with, the agents asked both siblings to open the door to check the state of their brother," police said.
"Once they went through, they came across another door closed by a wooden beam."
"After going through both doors, they found a crumbling, narrow staircase that went up to a type of dovecote," they added, before discovering the brother in the tiny roofless hovel.
"His health and cleanliness were deplorable and the state of the place was completely insanitary without access to running water or toilets," police said, describing his living conditions as "inhuman."

The man was taken to hospital, while his two siblings were detained, they added.
