Sad, Ear Infection: Read More Details About Buhari's Health Status Leaked from UK Hospital

                                                   President Muhammadu Buhari

Buhari's ear treatment in Europe has been on course with strong reports that he maybe back in Nigeria next week Thursday depending on the results of further tests.

SaharaReporters has learned that doctors in the UK who examined President Muhammadu Buhari’s ear infection have cleared him to travel back to Nigeria next week. A presidential source told a correspondent that Mr. Buhari was likely to leave London for Abuja next Thursday.

The source disclosed that the Nigerian president spent a day at a hospital in London where he underwent a series of tests to diagnose the nature of his ear ailment and a course of treatment. He declined to name the hospital where Mr. Buhari was seen.

According to the source, the doctors in the UK determined that President Buhari’s ear got infected after one of his doctors in Abuja “cleaned” his ear when he complained about a substantial loss of hearing from that particular ear. The presidential source stated that a female Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor treated the president. He said Mr. Buhari’s ear was cleaned again, and antibiotics applied to it. After just two days in the UK, Mr. Buhari reportedly proclaimed that his ear was feeling fine, according to a source.

It was learned that President Buhari has returned to the Nigerian diplomatic residence in London known as “Abuja House” where he intends to spend the rest of his time in the UK.

Another source in London disclosed that doctors in the UK had also prescribed a chest x-ray for Mr. Buhari to determine the cause of his persistent cough. The source said he was not aware what the result of the x-ray was.

A source familiar with the goings-on in the UK told a reporter that Mr. Buhari was expected to travel back to Abuja by next Thursday “if every goes well.”

London Opens First N*ked Restaurant Where Staff Wear 'Nothing' (Photos)

A restaurant where the waiters attend to customers unclad has opened in the United Kingdom with a big bang.

London's first n*ked restaurant which boasts 46,000 people on its waiting list opened its doors last night in a secret location in south east London.

The head chef of London's newest out-there dining experience said he hoped that being n*de will help diners concentrate on their food and encourage them to 'try new cuisines'. Only open for three months, Bunyadi claims it offers 'pure liberation', offering the experience of eating in its 'purest' form. But will the £69 tasting menu be the sole thing on everyone's mind?

Two MailOnline journalists who visited the restaurant for the first time share their experiences:

"On the way to the restaurant I realise I'm feeling pretty intense nerves, like first date nerves, which is weird because I never get naked on first dates.

"Being n*de doesn't bother me at all - I'm more than happy with my body - and I'm feeling a sort of thrill knowing I'll soon be swanning around as n*ked as the day I was born.

"I picture myself as an ethereal creature, casting off my clothes and prancing around like one of Joseph Tomanek's Nymphs Dancing to Pan's Flute.

"There are certainly some Dionysian vibes in The Bunyadi. The waiters and waitresses are naked despite some leaves and flesh coloured underwear covering their most intimate parts. It's all very Ancient Grecian.

"However, my lofty ideals of bohemian public nudity didn't quite come true.

"Walking into The Bunyadi - a dingy-looking, unmarked pub decipherable thanks only to the body guard at the entrance - I'm hit by a wave of humid heat (perhaps to encourage me to strip).

"Immediately my head begins to bead with sweat and I'm torn between a refreshing cocktail and hearing to the changing rooms - where I'm given a locker, a fluffy dressing gown and white slippers.

"It's unbearably warm I think, as a whip off my skirt, so much so that I don't think I've ever been so excited to get my clothes off - sorry ex-boyfriends.

Once in my robe I slink into the dark, labyrinth like restaurant. While I - the exhibitionist - am expecting an open and lit space, the layout of the restaurant evokes a cocooning and soothing atmosphere thanks to the private dining booths, encircled by bamboo.

"I dined with a female companion (trust me, there is nothing more depressing than failing to get a date when a precursor of the night is that you will be n*ked) and the experience felt a lot like the relaxed spa experiences I'm used to with my female friends.

"While I can't imagine two blokes, however much the best of friends they may be, stripping off to enjoy Tartare together, nudity among female friends feels natural.

"We go to toilet in front of one another in nightclubs - topless dining is nothing"

TB Joshua's Collapsed Church Crisis: Hotel Owners Cry Out... We Are Losing Money

Hoteliers in Ikotun area of Lagos State are currently bemoaning their loss due to low occupancy rate in most of the hotels. According the hoteliers, since the Synagogue Church of All Nations accident and the consequent disagreement with the Lagos government, the hotels have lost over N3.9billion revenue.

Speaking to journalists, hoteliers under the aegis of Pilgrims Hostels Association of Nigeria, said the total number of bed spaces of different categories for all the hotels in the Ikotun area stands at about 3,500.

Before the accident, the hotels had 100 percent occupancy rate in three days of every week due to the programmes in the church. Sadly, at the moment, the occupancy rates currently fluctuate between 10 per cent and zero all week long.
According to them, what this meant was that in these three days, instead of having their normal 3500 bed spaces sold, they could only boast of 350 rooms occupied.

Speaking further on the issue, one of the hoteliers, Chief Jerry Omoridion said, “We have been crying for a long time and the government does not seem to understand our plights. It is a serious issue for us because our means of sustenance is currently being wiped out. Before the unfortunate incident at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, cumulatively, we have a total of about 3500 hotel bed spaces. I am not adding some of these hotels there were in the process on coming on board but had to stop since the accident.

“The hotels have different categories of rooms, but for you people to understand the enormity of our lost, let me peg the room rates at just N5,000, that is the cheapest room rate in any decent hotel in Ikotun. Before the accident, we were having 100 per cent occupancy rate on at least three days in a week, this may sound unbelievable. You are members of the press, go round and do your investigations. But now, the occupancy rate in these three days is less than 10 per cent. Many of my colleagues have reduced their staff to the barest minimum; some of us are doing the jobs we used to employ and pay workers to do, since we can’t afford to employ now due to bad business climate.

“With a 10 per cent occupancy rate only about 350 rooms are sold by our members every night. Many had zero occupancy severally. What it means is that 3150 empty rooms, at N5,000 minimum per night, we are losing about N15,750000 per night. In a month the lost is put at N189,000000. If the figure is multiplied by 21 months, you have a whooping N3,969,000,000 as lost of revenue. This is just a conservative estimate. Think about the multiplier effect on the economy of the area. You can understand why we are shouting loudly. I am just talking about three days that we were sure of patronage.”

Asked what he was expecting the government to do since the case was already in court, Omorodion cuts in: “Look, this is a tourist destination. No area in Nigeria has a steady inflow of inbound tourists like Ikotun in Lagos. Go and do your research. Let me digress, I want you to go to the airport cab operators find out how this has affected their business.

“We insist that the government should understand that being a destination, all over the world, when there is accident, they should put in machineries to get to the root of the accident, take punitive action where necessarily without portraying the destination as unsafe and also overtly discouraging people from visiting there. Like the stampede in Saudi Arabia on September 24, 2015, more than 2000 pilgrims lost their lives. The country, knowing the importance of religious tourists, took necessary steps and quietly moved ahead. The Synagogue accident happened on September 12, 2014, since then we have been deprived of our livelihood due to the hostile signals from the government.

“As a country, we should be able to learn from those that know better than us. Let us borrow a leaf from other countries and learn how they manage crisis at a tourist destination. They manage in a way that ensures the safety of the lives and properties of tourists without harming the destination. What can of business do they expect us to go into?”

He explained that the figure he gave was just from the hospitality industry, by the time other ancillary business in Ikotun that depend on tourists add up their figures, the lost would be much more than this.

Omorodion called on the government to take a second look at the current impasse as regards the Synagogue Church and create better atmosphere for tourism to grow.

Ikotun, a Lagos suburb, is the host community to the Synagogue Church of All Nations. The community has become a tourist destination to many local and inbound tourists.

Christians come from all over the world to worship at the church with about two million local and inbound tourists visiting annually, before the unfortunate incident.

UNILAG students who drowned in Elegushi buried amid tears

Tears flowed freely on Friday at the Ikoyi Cemetary, Lagos, as the remains of Adesola Ogunmefun and Olufunmilayo Odusina, two University of Lagos post-graduate students who drowned and died during one of their friend’s birthday party at Elegushi beachi on June 6, 2016, were finally laid to rest.

Pastor Biodun Alimi, the officiating minister during the funeral programme speaking to the mouners said "But we do not want you to be uninformed brothers about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. Therefore, mourn not, cry not, grieve not; but rather give thanks to God for the life lived."
Despite the advice from the man of God, family members and friends of the two young women could not hold back their tears, as they wept bitterly while paying their last respect.
Sunmibola Ogunmefun, a sibling to the late Adesola, said even though the family is in mourning, they are consoled by the good life she lived and impact she made during her sojourn on earth.

“Very simplistic, you’ve never been the kind to take things too seriously and your smile is from ear to ear. Keeping malice with you was futile, you’d always find a way to break the ice…never one to hold grudge.

“Sola, in your short years on earth, you’ve connected us with so many people and your death has brought reconciliation…you are indeed a special one,” she said while paying homage to her late sister.

UNIBEN lecturers block student’s graduation for 3 years, say ‘too busy’ to compile records

A University of Benin student has been denied graduation for three years despite meeting all academic requirements, and his lecturers and examination officials say they have been too busy to compile his records.

Temidayo Awoyemi, 26, had eagerly hoped to fulfill his dreams after graduation from the school’s department of chemistry. He now has spent three years now after completing his studies, without graduation.

Officials in his department and faculty say they have had no time to process his records for the last two years.

The faculty checker, Professor Anthony Imiavan, in charge of scrutinizing students’ records, confirmed to Premium Times that the student had no case to keep him from graduating.

A spokesperson for the school told this newspaper the case was “strange”, and assured it would be resolved quickly.

Despite that assurance, the school has yet to act on the matter more than a month after.

Temidayo’s problem began in his final year when his department said his West African Senior Secondary School Certificate was not in its records. At least five other students in his class had the same problem.

After losing the 2012/13 school session to a six-month strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities, Temidayo hoped he would be quickly let go the next session once he provided a copy of the missing certificate.

He submitted the certificate to the chemistry department and began to wait for clearance since 2013/2014 session. Two years after, he is still waiting for the school to process his result for graduation.

The process of clearing him requires the approval of his course adviser, Wayne Omagamre, faculty checker, Professor Anthony Imiavan; the Head of Department, Professor James Okuo; and Dean, Professor Sunday Omosigho.

People Will Start Getting The N500bn Social Intervention From June 11

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says Federal Government (FG) will start the first roll out of its N500 billion intervention scheme on June 11.

The minister made the disclosure at the inaugural “Buharimeter Town hall Meeting’’, organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), in Abuja on Thursday.

The town hall meeting was organised to evaluate the 1st year of Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

According to NAN, the event was supported by Open Society for West Africa (OSIWA), and Department for International Development (DFID),

Mohammed said the government would on Saturday open an internet portal named “npower.gov.ng’’ and start taking applications for the 500,000 direct teacher job scheme.

He said that other schemes in the social investment programme would be rolled out in the coming weeks.

The schemes, according to the minister, included the conditional cash transfer that pays N5,000 monthly to one million Nigerians and the micro-credit scheme for more than 1.5 million people.

He said the others were the home grown school feeding programme that will serve 5.5 million pupils and the education support grant programme for 100,000 tertiary students in Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM), and education.

“The Change we promised is real, and with the takeoff of our massive social intervention programmes in a few days, Nigerians will begin to feel the impact of the new order.’’

Senate Passes 11 Bills In One Year, Collecting Billions

It was time for stock taking in the Senate. Senators took turns to review their activities in a special session to mark the one year anniversary of the inauguration of the eighth Senate on Thursday.

The 8th Senate was inaugurated on June 9, 2015, after the Proclamation by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Some Senators who spoke were upbeat in their comments, it was curious that leaders of the Senate Unity Forum, a group of Senators who opposed the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President, kept mum.

In all, the Senate passed only 11 bills in one year.

Committee on Rules and Business chairman Senator Babajide Omoworare, said the 11 bills were among the 300 bills brought before in the Senate.

He said 189 bills were at the first reading stage; 54 have been read second time and referred to committees.

He noted that several others were awaiting publication in the journal; three withdrawn to be represented by the sponsors while one was negatived.
In the House of Reps, Speaker Yakubu Dogara said they passed 85 bills out of the 685 bills received.

“About 98 per cent (675) of them were members’ bills, 10 executive bills and out of the bills, 416 are awaiting second reading.

“One hundred and thirty bills have been referred to committees; three are awaiting consideration and it is instructive to observe that 85 of these bills have been passed by the House so far,’’ he said.

Dogara said the number of bills introduced in the last one year represented the highest annual consideration of bills by the House since the return to democratic governance in 1999.

This Guy Took His "Love Doll" On A Date To The Cinema

The level of 'craze' some exhibit is epic. A man in China shocked everyone when he took a hyper-realistic love doll along to see a new movie at the cinema. And he even bought his 'doll-girl' a ticket.

The guy was spotted outside the Wanda Cinema in the city of Fuzhou in eastern China. Funny enough, most men who buy such dolls ended up sleeping with them. Sigh!

Workers Block Mimiko from Govt. House; Reject Plea To End Strike Without Money

Striking civil servants in Ondo State on Thursday blocked the main gate to Government House in Akure, thus preventing Governor Olusegun Mimiko from entering his place of residence.

The workers commenced the industrial action last week Wednesday to protest the non-payment of their 5-month salaries in Ondo State, one of the states collecting 13% derivation every month.

The governor, who was forced to come down from his vehicle to address the protesters, pleaded with them to suspend the strike, claiming the state did not have enough money to pay the salary arrears.

The protesting workers, led by the State Joint Negotiation Council chairman, Sunday Adeleye; the NLC state Chairman, Bosede Daramola; and her TUC counterpart, Soladoye Ekundayo, rejected the governor’s plea.

Mimiko said the government was ready to pay health and local government workers and teachers, to enable it to inject some money into the state economy, adding that when health workers resumed work, they would be able to meet the medical challenges of the people.

The governor noted that his administration was considerate and not insensitive to the workers' plight.

Mimiko appealed to them to call off the one-week old strike and considered his commitment not to retrench any worker in spite of the dwindling resources.

He added, “We are in a very difficult time in Nigeria and I have absolutely nothing against your protest. I can’t imagine somebody working diligently or not too diligently but worked for five months without pay, especially in an economy that depends mainly on salary.

“Your protest has been peaceful and that is what democracy is all about. People must be able to ventilate their feelings just like you are ventilating yours. But it is important for us to know the truth because it is the truth that can set us free.”

But the governor effort to convince the workers fell into deaf ears as some of them continued to shout “no salary, no work”, intermittently.

Responding, the state chairman of JNC, Adeleye, declared that until the workers had a signal that the state government was ready to pay their salary arrears, the indefinite strike would continue

S*xual Harassment ‎Bill A Step In The Right Direction

by Cynthia Ferdinand

The history of s*xual harassment dates back to the pre-colonial era when women were accorded little or no rights whatsoever - they were often married out against their wish, sacrificed as virgins or married to deities where they became ready s*xual preys to the chief priests or custodians of such deities.

While these repressive and degrading habits have abated following the introduction of Western education, it is unfortunate that the inhuman practice has not only crept into our citadels of learning but has continued to assume worrisome proportions to the consternation of parents and education authorities in the country alike.

The effects of incessant s*xual harassment of students in higher institutions
cannot be over-emphasized as it has continued to militate against the attainment of the educational vision and objectives of many a female folk in the country.

There have been overwhelming narratives on s*xual harassment by victims such that researchers of international repute have described Nigerian tertiary institutions as s*x colonies were r*pe and other forms of coerced copulation and s*xual intimacy are practiced without sanctions.

To many young Nigerians, especially female students in tertiary institutions, s*xual harassment is something of a norm. United Nations (UN) reports state that “one out of three women experience s*xual harassment in their lifetime”. According to the European Union Commission recommendation: "There are also adverse consequences arising from harassment for employers. In general terms, s*xual harassment is an obstacle to the proper integration of women into the labour market."

It is regrettable that over the years, aside provisions against r*pe and other untoward s*xual behaviours in both the Criminal and Penal Codes, there have been no clear cut and effective legislation aimed at checkmating or eliminating this abhorrent practice from our institutions of higher learning.

As a consequence, it is today difficult to explicitly articulate what constitutes s*xual harassment and what sanctions there are to deter male predators. Another factor that has helped sustained this barbaric tendency, is the seeming societal indifference to the plight of victims due to discrepancies in views as to what actually constitute s*xual harassment against the opposite s*x.

No matter the view we want to give to the menace of harassment, its cumulative, demoralizing and harmful effect cannot be glossed over. It is unarguable that many academic careers of female students have been disrupted and frustrated and led inexorably to depression, ostracism, mental anguish and loss of self esteem on the part of victims of s*xual harassment.

Against this backdrop, it is little wonder then that the move by the 8th Senate to put in place legislation to both deter and punish perpetrators has continued to excite female undergraduates across the country in no unmistakable terms. For instance, the euphoria that greeted the Second Reading of the Bill was recently given expression by members of the Nigerian Female Students Association (NFSA) who stormed the National Assembly in solidarity when the S*xual Harassment Bill scaled second reading on the floor of the Senate.

The Bill which proposes a five-year jail term for lecturers found guilty of having s*xually harassed a female student, was sponsored by Senator representing Delta Central, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege (Labour Party) and co-sponsored by 57 other Senators. Omo-Agege had while leading the debate on the landmark Bill, stated that "with this Bill we are refusing to abdicate our roles as leaders in the face of repugnant threats to our shared values. It is a warning to perpetrators that an end is near."

The Bill when passed into law would serve a consolation to victims of harassment and hope to the younger generation as it criminalizes the reprehensible act in a wider scope by not limiting it to only school environments because harassment has no borders - it can take place in homes, public spaces, etc...
