EFCC Re-Arraigns Suspected Fraudster For $127, 000 Scam EFCC Re-Arraigns Suspected Fraudster For $127, 000 Scam

The suspect, who had earlier been arraigned on March 10, 2015 before Justice H.A. Nganjiwa, is being prosecuted on a nine-count charge bordering on impersonation, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of over $127,000  Ikechukwu had allegedly obtained the money from his Swiss girlfriend,  Misepasi, whom he met on a dating site in February 2013, after tricking her to invest in a phony timber business. One of the counts reads:

Breaking News"Atiku in a fight with Tinubu over the control of APC

Atiku, Tinubu
It is very obvious from all indication that the two power house of All Progressive Congress are now in a loggerhead on who grabs the mantle of APC leadership.

Investigations on Friday revealed that the battle between the two power blocs to control the party: one led by Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and the other led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, played out during Tuesday’s National Assembly leadership elections.

The ruling party’s preferred candidates in both the Senate and the House of Representatives were defeated by party members who contested the elections against the wishes of the party.

The battle for supremacy between the two power house led to the emergence of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Ike Ekweremadu, as the Deputy Senate President.

It was gathered that both Atiku and Tinubu were desperate to have maximum control over the party structure so that party decisions could favour them at all times.

It was learnt that the two blocs wanted their candidates to emerge principal officers of the National Assembly since that would automatically qualify their candidates to become members of the party’s National Executive Committee, which is the highest decision arm of the party.

Senator Bukola Saraki emerged the President of the Senate at a time when leading figures of the party including Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and APC Senators as well as members of the House of Representatives were waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari at the International Conference Centre for a crucial meeting.

The party’s NWC earlier held a shadow election in which Senators Ahmad Lawan and George Akume emerged as the party’s candidates for Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.

But, Atiku was never in support of the mock election believed to be spearheaded by the APC national leader as the former Vice President was bent on breaking Tinubu’s influence on the party’s NWC.

As things stand, most of the current members of the APC’s National Working Committee are Tinubu’s loyalists.

With the outcome of the National Assembly leadership elections, there are strong indications that the Tinubu camp, which many agree, boasts of the likes of Lawan and Akume are not prepared to let the matter rest.

Sources said the Tinubu camp, though still jolted by its initial ‘defeat’ would likely spring a surprise in the days ahead.

It was gathered that members of the Senators Unity Forum, who supported the party’s candidates are queuing behind Tinubu and are likely to continue to do so in the days to come.

It was learnt that in supporting the aspirations of Saraki and Dogara, Atiku had argued that democracy could better be served when the principle of internal democracy is respected.

It was further learnt that Saraki’s publicised visit to Atiku’s residence a few hours after his emergence, was part of the power play.

By virtue of their new positions as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Saraki and Dogara, have become automatic members of the National Executive Committee, the highest decision making body of the party.

Their positions also confer on them automatic membership of the party’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee.

A leading member of the party’s NWC, explained that the unfolding scenario is likely to open up new frontiers in the power struggle within the party.

According to him, decisions at NEC from now on will be keenly contested by the two power blocs.

The National Assembly elections would likely affect decisions to be taken on ministerial nominees as some of the candidates in Tinubu’s camp may be rejected during screening by the Saraki/Atiku group.

He said, “It is obvious that with what happened on Tuesday at the National Assembly, two (dominant) power blocks have emerged in the party.

“We hope to heal the wounds created by the contests, but there is mutual suspicion between the two groups.”

When contacted, the Director-General of the Atiku Media Office, Mazi Paul Ibe, said, “Atiku did not orchestrate the emergence of the new leadership in the National Assembly and insinuating that amounts to nothing but political mischief, as he had refused to leave the party or work for the PDP even when the then President Jonathan was desperate for Atiku’s support.

“The visits of politicians and APC leaders including that of the Senate President are common political rituals in Atiku’s Asokoro residence. For the purposes of emphasis, the President has confidence in him and that explains why he had drafted him as an envoy of sorts in the race leading up to the emergence of a Nigerian President of African Development Bank.

“It is baseless and unfounded to suggest that Atiku conspired with the PDP or Saraki to ‘sabotage’ the APC. He would have congratulated Senator Ahmed Lawan (or any other leader) if he had won. It is simplistic to attribute conspiratorial agenda to an innocuous congratulatory visit.

“Atiku’s loyalty to his party is indisputable. He remains a loyal party member. He, in fact, threw his political assets behind the Buhari presidential campaign. Any suggestion that he conspired with Saraki or anybody is the figment of someone’s imagination.”

Attempts to get a reaction from Tinubu’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Dare, were unsuccessful.

Calls to his mobile phone at 5:21pm and at 7:14pm were neither picked nor returned. A response to a text message was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report at 7:24pm.

But, a member of Saraki’s Like Minds group of Senators, Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara South), said Saraki’s emergence, has no negative implication for party cohesion.

He said, “We are already reaching out to everyone. At the leadership level, we are reaching out to individuals.

“The Senate President is a very generous Nigerian with a very large heart. He has already extended his hands of fellowship to every senator and he has assured us all that he would carry everybody along. It is not going to be a case of winner-takes-all.”

Also, a member of the Senate Unity Forum, Senator Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central), said the party leadership is currently working tirelessly to ensure that the party remains a formidable and united entity.

The South East Zonal Spokesperson for the APC, Osita Okechukwu, said the party was seeking ways of moving forward.

According to him, it will be futile to begin to apportion blame and look for scapegoats because doing so will provide an avenue for those who do not wish the APC well to cash in.

He said party leaders deserve the respect of all party members, adding that if the wise counsel of President Muhammadu Buhari for non-interference in National Assembly issues was adhered to, the party would not have found itself in this situation. He, however, said it was time to move on.

Okechukwu said, “It is the desire of our opponents for there to be a rift but there is no rift. As a party, the only thing we need now, more than ever before, is unity.

“We need to unite especially in the National Assembly to be able to deliver on our promises to the Nigerian people. I dare say, we also need bi-partisan support if we are to get things done because we need each other.

4 of the nude tourists who were blamed for Malaysian 'earthquake' have been fined and released

4 foreign hikers who posed naked on Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia were freed Friday after they were fined and sentenced to time served.
The backpackers from Britain, Canada and the Netherlands -- were arrested after stripping naked on May 30 and posing for photos on the mountaintop.

The mountain is considered sacred in Malaysia.

They had pleaded guilty to "committing an obscene act."
The 2 Canadians have been identified as as Lindsey and Danielle Peterson. The Briton is named Eleanor Hawkins but the name of the Dutchman has not yet been confirmed.

The court in Kota Kinabalu on Friday evening fined the 4 tourists 5,000 Malaysian ringgits, about $1,332, each and sentenced them to three days in prison. Taking into account the time served already, the court ordered them freed.

Local residents had said their behavior caused the Kota Kinabalu earthquake this month, which killed 16 people. The indigenous people of Sabah believe the tourists disrespected local culture and angered the spirit of the mountain.

Among those who appeared in court was a British citizen who was arrested at the airport this week as she was about to leave for the capital of Kuala Lumpur.

The other three turned themselves in. They could have faced three months in prison.

Breaking:World's first penis transplant recipient to become a father

The South African man who made headlines in March for having the world's first successful penis transplant is to become a father. His girlfriend is said to be 4 months pregnant. His doctor, Professor Andre van der Merwe says this development proves without a doubt that 'the transplant worked'.

The 21 year old recipient, who has not been identified, lost his penis in a botched traditional circumcision three years ago and had the ground-breaking, nine-hour surgery in December 2014.

"This is what we intended, that he should be able to stand up and be able to urinate and have intercourse, so it is a milestone for him," Dr Van der Merwe, head of Stellenbosch University's Division of Urology, told the BBC. He added that he was “very pleased” for his patient that he was to become a father.

CHANGE!!!Buhari Shocks Nigerians, As he Refers to German Chancellor Angela Merkel as Michelle, President of West Germany

Nigerians are still in shock, after President Buhari referred to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel as President Michelle of West Germany.

During a press briefing in Abuja yesterday June 11th immediately after the Lake Chad commission meeting, president Buhari referred to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel as President Michelle and referred to Germany as West Germany

According to him;

"I was personally invited by G7. I went there and I was asked to brief the G7 and I was impressed with the tremendous sympathy they have for this sub-region, the Lake Chad Basin Commission. Their humanitarian approach to the issue to say the least is very very impressive and all of them, not only in Europe; from President Obama to the Chairman of G7 President Michelle of West Germany and french President. They are all willing to help us" he said

Sadly our president seems to have forgotten that the Western Germany does not exist anymore .
Change that we plead for is here.

Osinbajo Locked Out Of Buhari’s Security Meeting Second Time In 2 Weeks

All appears not to be smooth between President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo as it relates to national security matters.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met behind closed doors with some security chiefs to marshal the country’s plans that will be presented at a meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission in Abuja on Thursday. Vice President Osinbajo was conspicuously absent at this meeting.

National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ismail Aliyu; Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin attended the meeting held inside the Defence House in Abuja.

According to a state house correspondent who spoke to BREAKING TIMES on Wednesday, this is the second time Vice President Osinbajo would be “denied access” into a strategic security briefing with the President. “Normally, the Vice President should be part of these inaugural security briefings because he is the second in command and will deputise for the President in his absence. His absence two times in a row is not healthy at this early stage of their working relationship. We don’t actually know what is going on”, the source said.

It will be recalled  that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was ‘locked out’ of President Muhammadu Buhari’s meeting with the National Security Adviser on the orders of President Buhari. According to reports, Vice-President Osinbajo was refused ‘security clearance’ to attend the meeting as a result of security concerns by the Commander-in-Chief allegedly over what he described as a “very sensitive meeting.”

Permanent Secretary at Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence, Ismail Aliyu briefed State House correspondents at the end of today’s meeting, which lasted less more than two hours.

He said they discussed issues relating to the operationalisation of the Multinational Joint Task Force and the contributions of each member state.

He said the President, at the meeting, reiterated his desire to end insurgency in the country and the region in shortest possible time.

Aliyu said, “We came to brief Mr. President on the meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

President Buhari appears not to be the only one undermining the office of the Vice President. Newly elected Senate President, Bukola Saraki shunned a truce meeting called on Monday by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Senator Saraki boycotted the meeting after reportedly telling party leaders that as a former governor he could not attend a meeting summoned by a ‘mere commissioner’, referring to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, whose previous public office was as Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State.

Breaking News: The Value of the currency worth more than N8bn – EFCC

More indications revealed that some bankers from the Central Bank of Nigeria and commercial banks are standing trial over alleged fraud running into billions of naira as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, told the court that the stolen money was more than the N8 billion being reported in the media.

The anti-corruption commission represented by its counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) and other counsel gave this hint while proving the enormity of the offences committed and reason why the court should not grant the bail applications the accused tendered to the court.

He said, “There are other boxes they poured acid on. That alone contained N3.9 billion. The money stolen is even more than N8 billion that the media is writing.”

According to him, the commission, during one of its investigations, discovered that there were over 8,000 boxes that were yet to be opened by the CBN in its strong rooms and on opening 107 of the boxes for the First Bank that should contain N1.7 billion, only N256,000 was found in them.

He further told the court how the accused were alleged to have made confessional statements that they actually committed the offence.

At the sitting presided over by Justice Adeyinka Faaji, all the counsels to the accused submitted that the offence was a bailable and that the court reserved the discretion whether or not to grant the accused bail. The counsels who include Mr. Nathaniel Oke, Michael Lana,  Olalekan Ojo and others fought spiritedly to convince the court why their clients should be granted bail.
